How this train speed checker works
Modern phones can report your current speed as part of their GPS location data. This tool reads that speed directly from your device\u2019s browser \u2014 the same GPS chip used by maps apps \u2014 and displays it live, in kilometres per hour. Nothing is uploaded to ZetTool; the calculation happens entirely on your device.
Tips for an accurate reading
- Sit near a window \u2014 a clear view of the sky gives a stronger GPS signal inside a train or car
- Speed may read 0 or be unavailable for the first few seconds while your phone locks onto GPS satellites
- Tunnels, deep cuttings and dense urban areas can temporarily interrupt the signal
- Accuracy depends on your phone\u2019s GPS chip \u2014 most modern smartphones are accurate to within a few km/h
