A “25% off” sticker looks simple, but knowing exactly how that final price is calculated — and what it doesn’t include — helps you compare deals properly.
The discount formula
Saving = Original price × Discount% ÷ 100. Final price = Original price − Saving. A 25% discount on ₹1,999 saves ₹499.75, for a final price of ₹1,499.25.
What the percentage usually doesn’t include
- Delivery or shipping charges added at checkout
- Taxes applied after the discount
- Conditions like a minimum spend to unlock the discount
- Platform or convenience fees
Comparing two different discounts
To compare a “30% off” item against a “₹500 off” item, convert both to a final price using the same formula — the higher percentage isn’t automatically the better deal once original prices differ.
